The VISA to a world of opportunities 

If you are intending to pursue an academic opportunity in Ireland for more than 3 months, you will need to visit the website of Irish immigration service and apply for Ireland student visa via AVATS at least 3 months prior to your travel date. Along with the Visa application, you would need to submit relevant documents which include:


  1. Letter of acceptance or enrolment from the University in Ireland

  2.  Proof of payment of Program Fee. Irrespective of the cost of the program, a student visa requires a minimum payment of €6000 which is approximately 6 Lakhs in Indian currency.

  3. Two Passport size photographs, signed and mentioning the Unique Identification No generated by AVATS

  4. Evidence of your proficiency in English – IELTS/TOEFL/PTE score.

  5. Evidence of your financial independence during your stay in Ireland – access to €10,000 or INR 10 Lakhs for each year of study in Ireland. The requirement is lesser if your course duration is less than 8 months.

  6. Private Medical Insurance – Private Medical Insurance, arranged by you or your college, is mandatory for the full period of your course in Ireland.

The cost of Long stay study Visa in Ireland is €60 for single entry and €100 for multiple entry. The normal turnaround time (TAT) for a Student Visa is 40 days from the time your document reaches the embassy. Ireland has a 94% positive response to student visa applications and most rejections are due to incomplete applications and missing documents.

Scholarships and Casual employment during course duration

Students from India normally pick up casual employment to cover incremental costs. Ireland student visa allows 20 hours of casual employment per week during term time and 40 hours during vacation which is normally from June to September and 15 December to 15 January. They do not however get any social welfare payments or benefits.

Student can also apply for Scholarships from government and non-governmental organisations both in India and Ireland to cover the costs. These scholarships often cover all academic costs including fees, books and journals, research programs etc for students with proven merit. Some universities also provide scholarships for highly meritorious students.
