Students who have not completed an undergraduate major in history must have at least 15 credit hours of undergraduate courses in history, including 12 credit hours in the World and U.S. History survey courses. Students with deficiencies in these areas should apply for conditional admission to the program and may be asked to take undergraduate courses suggested by the Director of Graduate Studies before being fully admitted to the program.
Applicants must submit a $150 non-refundable application fee, official transcripts and degree certificates in both the original language and certified English translation, and proof of English language proficiency. Additionally, candidates are required to provide two letters of recommendation, a writing sample from a college course, and a personal statement outlining their motivation for pursuing an MA in History and how it aligns with their future goals. All materials must be sent directly from the issuing institutions to the Marshall University Office of Admissions.
